Workshop Information:

Description

As a clinician you likely engage with individuals and groups who have survived various traumas. You have helped your clients to struggle better (or cope), and supported them in experiencing resilience. But, imagine that you can be a part of facilitating a possible transformation – of reconstructing the narrative and supporting clients beyond coping and resilience. Post-traumatic growth (PTG) represents positive psychological change occurring in some who suffered trauma. PTG has been studied and researched across different populations and cultures. The PTGI (inventory) has been translated in different languages. The way trauma is defined, as well as the ways in which PTG may show up, differs depending on who it pertains to (the person’s life experience, culture, background, SES, etc.).

In this workshop, you will gain an understanding of the brain-mind dyad, the role of mindfulness, the latest research pertaining to PTG, its markers, and insights into clinical interventions you can begin incorporating into your work now to promote clients’ journey to healing and growth. Examples of how to consider cultural factors when assessing for trauma, PTG, and fostering PTG will be provided.
