Today’s best practitioners and clinicians know that the most effective treatment includes an understanding and application of complex trauma modalities for the support and healing of clients, specifically those who are coping with trauma that is manifesting in the body.
Engaging in this work can be difficult because people experiencing traumatic stress are often disembodied, disconnected from somatic experiences and stuck in the past. They are often overwhelmed by trauma responses such as numbing, affective overwhelm, loss of words or coherent narrative, aggression and impulsivity, lacking trust in relationships, and many other challenges. Though these responses are protective, they keep people from living a connected and fulfilling life.
Join Dr. Grinman in this two-day virtual experience (March 9 9am-4pm AND March 10 9am-4pm) of learning how to more effectively treat people with complex trauma.
12 CEs are available for NYS LMHCs, LMSWs, LCSWs, LMFTs, LCATs, NYS Licensed Psychologists and NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts upon completion of this two-day training.
Objectives:
Upon completion of two-day training, participants will be able to:
-design effective ways to help clients understand and process what is happening in their body as a result of traumatic stress.
-substantiate how trauma affects the developing mind and brain, and articulate the psychological impact and long-term effects of trauma on physical and mental health.
-determine how sensorimotor processing can alleviate the re-experiencing of trauma.
-support why embodiment in psychotherapy matters and how to incorporate it successfully into treatment with traumatized clients.
-perform specific movement, breathing, interoception, and mindfulness techniques that can help children and adults gain mastery over their lives.
-characterize how yoga and other embodied strategies can reframe trauma experiences and connect to a mind-body awareness.
In accordance with the NY State Education Department guidelines, in order to receive continuing education contact hours, a participant needs to be present for the duration of the workshop/training. Therefore, participants who arrive late or leave the event early will not be granted a certificate of completion. This is a two-day training; participants must be present for both days to earn CE credits; NYSED does not permit the awarding of “partial credit” of a training.
Cancellation Policy: Refunds will be provided for cancellations made in writing up to three business days prior to the start of the event.
